CDC Goes Global

CDC Software, a global provider of enterprise business solutions, has utilized a strategy of piecing together a business suite through the purchases of various companies. Within six years of doing business, CDC Software had already amassed approximately ten suppliers including Ross Systems ERP and Pivotal Corporation CRM.

CDC’s strategy has allowed them to become a reputable source for SaaS software solutions. However, the company does not want to limit themselves to a purely SaaS strategy at this point in time.  CEO Peter Yip commented on the decision to go SaaS or On-Premise. He said, “I’ve seen software vendors that have dropped everything on-premises and taken everything on-demand. But that will take them forever, and I don’t think it’s a model we can adopt.”

Additionally, another driver for CDC Software’s SaaS strategy is extending its geographical reach. One key focus in particular is India. Yip explained that CDC software is viewing India as a profit center. He said, “IT is one of India’s biggest exports, but the adoption of IT by medium-sized companies there is very low. Cloud computing means that small and medium-sized enterprises can adopt IT, because they don’t need to have capital expenses. It is perfect for a big country like India.”

Despite being in the process of consolidating numerous data centers, CDC is still in the planning stages of its first Asian facility. Even though CDC recognizes the huge potential of the Asian Market, they still have yet to take advantage and offer their services to customers in the Far East.
