Sage ERP Accpac Release Now with Web Capabilities

Sage North America introduces a new release of its Sage ERP Accpac application suite. The Sage ERP Accpac 6.0 targets midsize customers and is only sold through Sage channel partners. The version is the first in a series of releases that will transform the software into a fully Web-based system.

Accpac was first developed as an on-premise set of applications, but now Sage now executes a product roadmap transforming it into a completely Web-based product. The new application suite includes financial, sales, manufacturing, and purchasing as well as inventory management applications.

Sage has faced challenges in keeping up with competitors such as Microsoft and NetSuite who have been appealing to its customers and reseller partners with new innovative products. The challenge for Sage has been keeping their broad range of software products consistently.

However, Sage revenue from hosted systems did grow 40 percent in 2010, according to Scott Zandbergen, VP of product management.

The release of the 6.0 version offers a new interface with Web-based aspects such as support for mobile devices including the iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Upon accessing the Google Web Toolkit, the Accpac Web Portal will provide users with role-based workflow navigation through their mobile devices.

Organizations using Accpac 6.0 also have the option of using the software’s “classic’ desktop interface or the newer Web-enabled interface. The 6.0 has new BI capabilities like Accpac Intelligence for creating reports and analyzing data taken from the ERP system with the ability to download data into Microsoft Excel.

The new Accpac Fiscal Period Management feature helps accountants and financial managers to lock fiscal periods by application module for transactions that are more accurate in processing. Finally, Sage has added its Sage CRM app to the Accpac bundle for no additional cost.
