New Transarc Site Brings Dedicated Middleware Support to West Coast

San Diego (November 24, 1998) – IBM’s Transarc subsidiary today announced the opening of a new Customer Solutions Center in San Diego. The Center will support customers on the West Coast using IBM and Transarc’s enterprise-wide transaction processing solutions as well as future product development efforts.
Transarc already has recruited more than a dozen highly skilled employeeslocallyto staff the new site, including the center’s director, Bob Freeman. Located in North County, a high-tech area of San Diego, the Center plans to employ 30 people by the end of the year. This new site will also become a base for customer support, training and seminars serving the West Coast.
Transarc supports the Center with funding from IBM, a reflection of IBM’s commitment to the middleware market. Anticipating additional growth through 1999, the center expects to continue recruiting software developers, program managers, technical writers, business development experts, and marketing communications professionals.
“This West Coast endeavor is something we’ve been intending to do for some time, and now the time is right,” said Lorene Steffes, president and CEO, Transarc Corporation. “We have key staff in place today and plans for continued growth. Bob Freeman and his team are ready to provide independent software vendors (ISVs), value-added resellers (VARs), system integrators and other solution providers with the skills and support they need to create solutions using IBM’s transaction processing middleware.”
“This will be the first Customer Solutions Center providing dedicated support to IBM’s WebSphere family of Web application servers, which integrates IBM’s industry-leading transactional server technologies,” said Alfred Spector, general manager, Application and Integration Middleware, IBM. “By bringing these leading-edge skills and support to our West Coast customers and partners, we will make it easier for them to realize the benefits of e-business.”

The Center also will develop a toolkit of common solutions that will help IBM and Transarc partners and developers meet customers’ needs more effectively.
