IBM and J.D. Edwards Announce Network-Delivered Enterprise Business Solutions
Offering a Boon to Small and Medium-sized Firms
San Francisco (February 16, 1998) – IBM* and J.D. Edwards* have announced a network-delivered application offering that provides companies with cost-effective, reliable and secure network access to one of the industry’s leading
enterprise business software packages. The announcement was made here today at IBM’s Business Partner Executive Conference.
Available through IBM Global Services, the offering enables small- and medium-sized companies to leverage the benefits of J.D. Edwards enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, without a large investment in systems, software and technical skills.
This new solution is part of a family of Network Delivered Application Services for business management launched by IBM in 1997. This announcement will help small and medium-sized businesses with 50 or more employees to meet their requirements for integrated ERP solutions.
With the Network Application Services offering, customers can access J.D. Edwards ERP applications through a secure IBM Global Network link to a professionally-managed and operated IBM data center for a small initial charge and a monthly per-user charge.
“Customers now have a cost-effective alternative to implementing and supporting enterprise solutions customized to their industries and reducing the number of experienced internal IT professionals required,” said Bo Bovaird, vice president at J.D. Edwards and director of the company’s new outsourcing unit.
IBM Global Services provides software package implementation, a managed network connection, systems hardware and software, J.D. Edwards application software, and ongoing managed operation of the application environment, including technical support, help desk, disaster recovery and Computer Based Training (CBT) support.
