Epicor Aims to Blow NetSuite and SAP Out of the Water

Epicor is joining the on-demand ERP smackdown with a new application aimed at small manufacturing companies as well as competing companies like NetSuite and SAP.

Epicor’s Manufacturing Express Edition is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) that provides users with the ability to share a single instance of the software, with their data kept in a separate place. Epicor’s SaaS model will help the company push out updates and upgrades to several customers at once.

Epicor’s Manufacturing Express Edition also includes CRM, production management, product management, financials, materials management and business intelligence capabilities like dashboards and a search engine.

Epicor’s new SaaS is also flexible enough to handle different manufacturing process styles like make-to-order, engineer-to-order, and assembly. The different software modules are built on a single database, giving users seamless integration.

Customers will be able to experience the new SaaS platform within 20 business days. The company has guaranteed 99.5% system availability with hosting in a tier 1 datacenter, with backup and storage redundancies in several geographic locations. The company wants the on-demand platform to be available rain or shine.

Epicor Express leverages a subset of its functionality from Epicor 9. “We took that footprint and took about 20-plus or so of the modules, bundled them together and created a template that overlays them, which simplifies the product for a job shop or small manufacturer,” said Chad Meyer, director of product marketing at Epicor. Meyer also explains: “With these small job shops, we understand there’s a different workflow. Users could be doing quotes one minute, be on the floor next, and doing the books later in the day.” The product is designed to adapt to the volatile needs of the small business owner.

The company has plans to extend SaaS services to large customers as well as to different verticals in the near future. In the meantime, the company has revealed that small businesses are responding positively to the new SaaS software. Epicor claims it has 5 customers already live on Epicor Express, 15 in the process, and 150 in the pipeline. The company has dived headfirst into the competitive on-demand ERP software sphere and has no plans to turn back.
